Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer

In this role, you will operate under general supervision, taking charge of the examination, evaluation, and resolution of challenges associated with supplier components. This involves collaborative efforts with various stakeholders within the organization and external suppliers to guarantee the quality and operational effectiveness of incoming parts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate, synchronize, and report on initiatives related to Model Year and Running Change Measures.
  • Collaborate with the Supplier Quality Engineer (MP) on boundary samples, assess trial components, offer production line support, and communicate part readiness for launch to the MP team.
  • Drive corrective actions and conduct root cause analyses employing problem-solving methodologies and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Assist Production Operations with supplier-related challenges, process enhancements, and cross-functional initiatives to meet quality, safety, and production objectives.
  • Oversee part sorting operations using third-party services, including in-house, yard, and sequencing locations.
  • Initiate and manage containment measures internally while providing feedback to Supplier Quality and Suppliers.
  • Commence supplier notifications and initial problem-solving documentation.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination of part quality and data between supplier facilities.
  • Manage part campaigns for retrofit and rework initiatives.
  • Coordinate quality-related activities for engines and transmissions with colleagues and suppliers.
  • Oversee repair processes for engines and transmissions in collaboration with suppliers and manufacturing plants.
  • Maintain inventory of spare and repair parts for engines and transmissions.
  • Coordinate all repair protocols and methodologies in alignment with engine and transmission plants and repair personnel.
  • Adhere to safe work practices and actively participate in training and safety programs.
  • Report any unsafe actions, conditions, or injuries to supervisors or Human Resources.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the relevant drivetrain sector.
  • Professional Experience:
    • Co-Op/internship experience and/or up to 2 years of professional experience in Quality Engineering within an engine/transmission manufacturing context.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Experience with handheld measurement instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers).
  • Familiarity with GD&T and SPC analysis.
  • Ability to implement fundamental quality system requirements within an automotive manufacturing environment (e.g., APQP steps, control plan validation, PFMEA reviews, audits).
  • Working knowledge of specific manufacturing processes (e.g., chassis drivetrain components, welding, stamping, injection/blow molding, casting, machining).
  • Understanding of powertrain components (e.g., brake, suspension, exhaust, steering, HVAC, engine, transmission systems).
  • Knowledge of internal components of engines and transmissions and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills using methodologies such as 8D, 5-WHY, DOE, RedX, Six Sigma.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in the German language.

Preferred Skills:

  • Capability to undertake additional Supplier Quality Operations-related tasks as required (e.g., line call support, issue response, audit finding investigations, walk-backs, non-conforming material handling).
  • Proficiency in CAD, Catia, CMM, FMEA, APQP, and Faro Arm measurement.
  • Experience with drivetrain products and/or facilities in Germany.
