Position Overview: The Financial Controller is integral to managing the financial operations of Brookwood Management, LLC, a leading entity in the construction and real estate sector. This role encompasses the oversight of all accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, and the establishment of internal controls within the organization. A comprehensive understanding of accounting principles, advanced proficiency in Excel, and strong leadership capabilities are essential for effective collaboration with the accounting team.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting:

  • Generate precise and timely weekly and monthly financial statements for various related entities, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and relevant regulatory standards.
  • Evaluate financial data to uncover trends, variances, and opportunities for enhancement.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Facilitate the creation of appropriate budgets.
  • Track budget performance and provide consistent updates to management.
  • Develop financial forecasts to aid strategic decision-making.

Cash Management:

  • Oversee cash flow and liquidity to fulfill operational requirements and debt commitments.
  • Establish effective cash management policies and procedures.
  • Supervise banking activities and reconcile bank accounts.

Accounts Payable and Receivable:

  • Manage the accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and tenant billing.
  • Guarantee timely and accurate transaction recording.

Property/Capex Accounting:

  • Maintain detailed property-level accounting records and ledgers.
  • Review property financials for accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with property managers to resolve accounting issues and discrepancies.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

  • Develop and uphold internal control procedures to protect company assets and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Coordinate with external accountants for audits, reviews, and other tax engagements.
  • Implement recommendations to enhance internal controls and operational efficiency.

Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor accounting personnel, providing guidance and support to promote professional development.
  • Encourage a collaborative and inclusive work environment that fosters teamwork and accountability.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to maintain high performance standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Experience in real estate and/or construction is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting standards specific to the real estate industry.
  • Experience with related party transactions managed within a single accounting system.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the capability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and a history of building and motivating high-performing teams.
