Tico Coffee Roasters is a boutique coffee roasting and tea company owned by women, situated in Campbell, CA. We specialize in direct importing premium coffees and the finest teas from around the globe. Our coffees are meticulously roasted in small batches, and our teas are thoughtfully curated to ensure freshness and consistency. We are committed to sustainability, quality, and social responsibility.

We are seeking a dedicated barista to become the first point of contact for our retail clients at our cafe in Downtown San Jose, California. This role involves developing a customer retention strategy aimed at fostering long-term relationships with our clientele. The ideal candidate is someone who is genuinely passionate about coffee, food, and creating exceptional guest experiences rooted in respect, empathy, and recognition. While previous experience is advantageous, it is not a requirement. Your personality and values will be the key differentiators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide outstanding customer service with a welcoming demeanor
  • Exhibit enthusiasm and passion for coffee
  • Educate customers about our diverse product offerings
  • Maintain high standards of product quality and consistency
  • Strive for maximum customer satisfaction
  • Accurately process transactions using the POS system
  • Regularly taste and evaluate coffee to ensure adherence to quality standards
  • Stay updated on new products and their characteristics
  • Collaborate with team members and management to address challenges and enhance service
  • Foster a positive work environment
  • Engage in training activities, including cuppings, tastings, and workshops
  • Deliver exceptional hospitality to guests and fellow team members
  • Work collaboratively to prepare and serve a variety of delicious coffees using different brewing methods, including espresso, pour-over, and cold brew
  • Assist in serving delightful food items from our food partners
  • Regularly sample coffee and espresso drinks to ensure quality and refine your palate
  • Support the team in maintaining a clean and organized cafe environment, which may include tasks such as washing dishes, sweeping, and taking out the trash
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Perform repetitive motions with hands and wrists to operate espresso machines
  • Ability to detect and identify coffee aromas
  • Communicate effectively with customers
  • Lift weights up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Conduct periodic clean-up during and at the end of shifts
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Possess a positive, inspiring, and respectful attitude
  • Demonstrate a passion for coffee, people, and culinary experiences
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a commitment to accurately conveying the mission of Tico Coffee Roasters
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends
  • Food Handler's Certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire
Trial Period:
  • Complete satisfactory internal orientation
  • Demonstrate understanding of products and equipment
  • Effectively complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
