Job Overview

In Jefferson County, Colorado, we are seeking a highly skilled Wildland Fire Management Specialist to join our team.

Job Description:
  • Establish and maintain a unified operational structure that integrates critical stakeholders for effective fire management and suppression in Jefferson County.
  • Develop strategic plans for fire management, including report creation and presentation at community events and forums.
  • Coordinate fuel mitigation projects aligned with the Jefferson County Hazard Mitigation Plan and Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
  • Manage fire management budgets, administer grants, and develop grant applications for hazardous fuels projects.
  • Oversight of all-risk, wildland, and prescribed fire incidents in Jefferson County, making operational decisions and coordinating responses.
  • Maintain certification and training records for county employees and volunteers, collaborating with partner agencies to host wildfire courses.
  • Monitor and report on fire weather, fuels, and related data, recommending restrictions or bans based on local and regional analysis.
  • Coordinate with countywide fuels crews and operations, assigning projects and providing payroll documentation.
  • Facilitate committees and meetings with fire districts, area cooperators, and other related agencies.

We offer a competitive salary range of $85,000 - $110,000 per annum, commensurate with experience, as well as opportunities for professional growth and development. A Bachelor's Degree and minimum five years of work experience are required. National Wildland Fire Coordinating Group certifications and emergency vehicle operations course completion are preferred. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.
