Position Overview:

The Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer is responsible for delivering technical expertise to enhance manufacturing and process systems, ultimately improving overall equipment effectiveness and operational excellence. This role collaborates closely with quality assurance and engineering teams to drive efficiencies and integrate new products and processes. The engineer will specify, design, and execute a range of projects aimed at enhancing capacity, refining processes, and reducing costs, necessitating cross-functional collaboration across various departments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Production Support

  • Oversee equipment maintenance and repair, ensuring adherence to manufacturer guidelines to maintain operational production equipment.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all processes, implementing improvements to ensure product quality and optimize performance metrics.
  • Support the training and certification of manufacturing staff on new or modified processing lines.
  • Assist in scaling existing processes to meet increased customer demand or improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to follow up on field performance issues, ensuring products meet required specifications.
  • Possess a solid understanding of mechanical equipment utilized in manufacturing settings (e.g., pumps, motors, valves).
  • Supervise technicians, technologists, analysts, and other engineering staff as necessary.
  • Understand the applications of aseptic manufacturing and associated utilities (e.g., CIP, SIP, steam barriers).
  • Provide technical expertise and support for the installation and maintenance of process equipment and improvements.

Process Improvement

  • Lead initiatives to minimize waste, enhance process capability, and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), while managing capacity as needed.
  • Define specifications for processes and equipment, including processing methods and procedures.
  • Conduct research and trials on raw materials to support quality and productivity enhancements.
  • Identify and implement changes to improve product quality or reduce costs, leveraging knowledge of fabrication processes and production equipment.
  • Review product designs for manufacturability and completeness.
  • Plan workflow, equipment layout, and spatial requirements to boost manufacturing efficiency and ergonomics.
  • Evaluate quality assurance processes and recommend enhancements.
  • Analyze production data and provide management with reports to inform future manufacturing requirements.
  • Modify and upgrade processes to lower costs and improve quality, focusing on customer satisfaction and process variation reduction.

Operational Alignment

  • Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders involved in or impacted by assigned responsibilities.
  • Conduct self-inspections related to food safety and defense, reporting on any deficiencies.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and develop corrective and preventative actions (CAPA).
  • Ensure compliance with all company and regulatory requirements concerning products, personnel, equipment, and environmental standards.
  • Promote a safe working environment by adhering to safety protocols and fostering a culture of safety.
  • Assist in the creation and updating of P&IDs, layout drawings, and schematics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, or Chemical) is required.
  • 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Project management experience is essential.
  • Experience in managing personnel is preferred.
  • Experience in a food-grade environment (FDA, GMPs, HACCP) with high-speed packaging equipment is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to perform physical tasks including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and repetitive motions.
  • Capability to work seated at a computer and phone for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, including overtime and occasional weekends.
  • Visual acuity to document company records accurately.
  • Continuous movement throughout the manufacturing plant and distribution center.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
