OVERVIEW
The Safety and Training Operations Manager for the Baggage Handling System is tasked with the creation, execution, and supervision of training initiatives and safety measures for baggage handling systems in an airport environment. This role is pivotal in developing and facilitating training programs to ensure that all personnel are thoroughly trained and adhere to airline and regulatory training standards. The position is crucial for maintaining safety protocols, addressing issues, and investigating incidents to enhance operational efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop training materials and manuals that align with current industry standards and regulatory mandates.
- Revise training content to incorporate advancements in technology, procedures, and regulations.
- Design and implement extensive training programs for baggage handling personnel.
- Establish and enforce safety protocols and procedures pertinent to baggage handling operations.
- Conduct routine safety audits and inspections to verify compliance with safety regulations for airport facilities and equipment.
- Investigate accidents or incidents related to baggage handling and execute corrective measures.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, as well as customer safety standards.
- Compile and present regular reports on training activities, safety audits, and incident investigations.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all training and safety-related activities.
- Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the team.
- Perform root cause analysis to mitigate and eliminate safety violations.
- Identify and evaluate safety hazards and risks in airport operations.
- Collaborate with airport management and staff to resolve safety issues.
- Prepare and deliver safety reports to senior management and regulatory bodies.
- Monitor safety performance metrics and provide insights on trends and improvements.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and advancements in safety.
- May undertake additional responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Eligible to work in the United States.
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- OSHA 10 or 30 Certification is mandatory.
- Experience with Lockout Tagout Systems is essential.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is advantageous.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language, including technical documents.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
- Capable of using electronic devices such as tablets, computers, and mobile devices.
- Exceptional communication and training facilitation skills, comfortable speaking in group settings.
- Able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Eligible to obtain necessary credentials and clearances (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs, U.S. Postal as applicable).
- Willingness to work any day or shift, including holidays, in a 24/7 operational environment.
- Must demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds.
- Prolonged standing and walking in various environments.
- Must be able to push, pull, and reach with arms, as well as grasp with hands.
- Ability to climb and work at elevated heights.
- Must be able to bend, stretch, squat, and kneel.
- Capable of crawling and crouching in confined spaces as needed.
- Work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Move large equipment as required.
- Hand/eye coordination is necessary.
- Exposure to varying climates and moderate to high noise levels.
- Ability to hear and respond to spoken communication and audible alarms.
- Tasks may involve repetitive motions of the arms, wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $90,000, reflecting the company's expectations based on qualifications, skills, competencies, education, and experience.
