The Senior Electrical Cost Estimator is responsible for generating cost estimates for the electrical aspects of designated projects utilizing ACCUBID software. This role involves simulating the construction process to assess the financial implications of design decisions. The Estimator will frequently reference databases and personal records to benchmark costs against similar projects and is expected to offer expert guidance to management, colleagues, and junior staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Mark III Construction's estimating system, including ACCUBID and associated software tools.
  • Thoroughly review proposal specifications and drawings, leading pre-bid meetings to clarify the scope of work and estimate requirements, ensuring quality control and compliance.
  • Generate comprehensive, precise, and timely estimates for the electrical systems of projects, encompassing costs, general conditions, overhead, and profit margins.
  • Conduct quantity take-offs for electrical materials on both plan/spec and design-build projects.
  • Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain quotes and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Maintain organized records of bid documents, notes, and assumptions related to project estimates.
  • Design electrical systems layouts as necessary to provide complete estimates when documentation is incomplete.
  • Establish productivity benchmarks tailored to each project's unique requirements and adjust estimates accordingly.
  • Create conceptual budget estimates based on system narratives and sketches.
  • Act as a mentor and leader to junior team members.
  • Design electrical service systems for projects, including pre-construction services.
  • Oversee the design process from initial concept to approved permit.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including preparing change orders for the operations team.
  • Develop design specifications for electrical systems on Design/Build projects to facilitate accurate estimates.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in estimating processes for plan/spec, design assist, and design-build methods.
  • Advanced knowledge in structuring estimates and developing models to support project-specific cost components.
  • Expertise in interpreting architectural, structural, plumbing, electrical, fire alarm, and mechanical plans, along with familiarity with various electrical systems and terminology.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and adept with current computer technologies.
  • Strong mathematical capabilities and proficiency with Bluebeam software.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with engineers, vendors, clients, and team members.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and urgency in completing tasks on time.
  • Commitment to quality workmanship and accountability for professional accuracy.
  • Proven track record of setting and achieving goals within deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively across various teams.

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of five years of experience in electrical estimating for commercial, industrial, e-commerce, and higher education projects.
  • Required proficiency with estimating software, particularly ACCUBID, with at least five years of experience.
  • Five years of related experience in mechanical/HVAC estimating is beneficial.
  • Preferred background as an electrical trainee, apprentice, or journeyman.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (N.E.C.) and local electrical regulations.
  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience in an electrical Design/Build department is highly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Willingness to participate in site visits, including climbing ladders and walking on roofs.

Salary Range: $140,000 to $180,000, depending on experience.
