Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to spearhead cross-functional initiatives aimed at enhancing our hybrid classical-quantum computing solutions, optimizing our comprehensive operational telemetry, and supporting our continuous quantum computing operations. This role entails significant program-level decision-making authority and accountability for achieving successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the comprehensive delivery of IonQ's innovative hybrid classical-quantum solutions, coordinating multiple development streams across hardware, software, and firmware.
  • Work closely with product management and technical leaders to translate a high-level product vision into actionable milestones that deliver tangible value.
  • Establish and oversee project timelines to ensure synchronized delivery across various programs, defining key milestones and major deliverables while ensuring resource alignment.
  • Conduct operational planning and budgeting to facilitate the successful execution of the program throughout its lifecycle.
  • Proactively address significant project challenges by diving into details and leading problem-solving initiatives with urgency and decisiveness.
  • Collaborate with all project stakeholders, including both technical and non-technical teams, to ensure seamless integration and communication.
  • Prepare and present concise, data-driven project status updates and presentations to senior leadership.
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in managing projects and achieving technical/product objectives within tight deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree in physics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience in developing integrated software-hardware products, such as consumer electronics.
  • Familiarity with the software development lifecycle.
  • Proven track record in managing interdisciplinary projects using tools like Jira.
  • Ability to guide technical teams through complex challenges with high levels of ambiguity.
  • Experience in research and development within industry or national laboratories.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 15+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • PhD in Engineering or Science, preferably in Quantum Computing, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • PMP Certification.
  • Proficiency in reading, understanding, and writing code.
  • Experience in software or firmware development.
  • Familiarity with managing projects through the Product Development Lifecycle with formal gated reviews.
  • Knowledge or training in quantum computing.
  • Strong executive presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to build trust and respect among technical stakeholders through consistent communication and results.
  • Experience in customer-facing technical roles.
Work Environment:
This position offers flexibility with the option to work remotely several days a week.

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is competitive and will vary based on individual factors such as market location, relevant knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may include additional elements depending on the role and level.
