We are seeking a Senior Quantum Systems Engineer with a strong background in quantum system development.

In this role, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team dedicated to advancing IonQ's mission of creating the most sophisticated quantum computers to tackle the world's most intricate challenges.

Your responsibilities will include spearheading the design, integration, and performance evaluation of IonQ's next-generation trapped-ion quantum systems.

Key Responsibilities:
Oversee subsystem development and integration by working closely with engineering and software teams.
Direct the architecture of control systems for our upcoming quantum computing platforms.
Design and implement FPGA-based signal processing and control functionalities.
Establish requirements and specifications for software and control systems.
Create calibration procedures to enhance the performance of trapped-ion quantum systems.
Guide physicists and engineers in transitioning assembled hardware from initial ion trapping to coherent gate operations.

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Physics or Electrical Engineering with a focus on AMO physics or quantum information.
Proficient in Python or C++ programming languages.
5+ years of post-PhD experience in industry or national laboratories.
Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
7+ years of post-PhD experience in industry or national laboratories.
Experience in developing calibration procedures for optimizing quantum computer performance.
Skilled in creating RF trap waveforms for the coherent movement of ions.
Experience in engineering or systems engineering to convert complex physical systems into market-ready products.

Location:

This position will be based in our latest facility.
The salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience.

The base pay component of the offer will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Posted figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. The total compensation package may include other elements dependent on the position and level. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment.

Beyond base pay, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component, as well as a range of benefit options which can be found on our site.
