Key Responsibilities

The Immunostains Laboratory conducts various tests on patient tissue samples for clinical evaluation. If you are interested in contributing to patient diagnostics from behind the scenes, consider the role of Lab Processing Assistant within the Immunostains Team.

Responsibilities include:
  • Collaborating with team members to create an inclusive workplace and respecting diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Executing pre-analytic specimen processing tasks.
  • Utilizing a range of laboratory and office equipment.
  • Inputting information and test orders into the laboratory information system.
  • Handling a high volume of inquiries regarding laboratory testing.
  • Ensuring accurate patient identification on specimens.
  • Documenting and resolving pre-analytic specimen-related challenges.
  • Potentially preparing complex reagents.
  • Managing inventory of work unit supplies.
  • Operating automated systems.
  • Providing training to new team members.
Note: Individuals hired for this position must complete two years in this role before being eligible to apply for other positions within Mayo Clinic.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess an associate degree or a high school diploma/GED along with two years of relevant work experience, including clinical laboratory experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • An associate degree in a health or science-related field.
  • Previous experience as a lab assistant.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to strict safety protocols for handling chemicals and infectious agents.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in reading specimen labels and working with numerical data to avoid mislabeling.
  • Familiarity with computers, keyboarding, and office equipment.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Flexibility to accommodate schedule changes, including off-shifts, holidays, and weekends.

Compensation Details

The hourly wage for this position is $25.29. Factors such as education, experience, and tenure will be considered when extending job offers.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with a schedule of Tuesday to Saturday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
