Position Summary:
The Youth Peer Partner plays a crucial role in offering peer support to young individuals facing mental health challenges within the community. This role involves facilitating connections with service providers, addressing transportation barriers, and assisting with other obstacles that may hinder access to treatment and support. The Youth Peer Partner is responsible for training in independent living skills, documenting client progress, and conducting outreach as necessary.

The Youth Peer Partner - Drop-In Center is dedicated to empowering youth and young adults dealing with behavioral and mental health challenges by delivering a range of recovery-oriented services. This position focuses on fostering independence, community integration, and mental wellness recovery.

About Mid-Columbia Center for Living (MCCFL):
MCCFL is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) that specializes in trauma-informed and recovery-oriented services for individuals with mental health and addiction issues. Our approach emphasizes safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness, and empowerment for both clients and staff. We serve the communities of Hood River, Wasco, and Sherman Counties, employing a consumer-driven model that addresses both physical and mental health needs through a holistic care approach.

Qualifications:
Required Skills and Education:
Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential responsibilities of this position is acceptable. This includes:

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to obtain an Oregon Health Authority certification as a Peer Delivered Service Provider and certification as a Peer Support Specialist (PSS) – Youth Support within 6 months of hire.
  • Personal lived experience as a mental health treatment consumer or supporting a family member with similar experiences.
  • Must be 30 years of age or younger.
  • Familiarity with youth rights and support principles, as well as current mental health issues affecting youth and families.
  • Knowledge of laws and policies related to mental health, special education, and juvenile justice is preferred.
  • Must obtain a current food handler's permit within 30 days of employment.
  • Possession of a valid Oregon or Washington Driver's License and an acceptable driving record.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular meetings with consumers, providing training in independent living skills and documenting interactions.
  • Maintain accurate client documentation using an electronic health record system.
  • Advocate for consumers and promote self-advocacy while maintaining community networks.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to address concerns and participate in ongoing support networks.
  • Coordinate and oversee group activities, ensuring safety and compliance.
  • Provide coverage for other Peer Partners as needed.
  • Adhere to safety procedures at all times.
