Role Summary:

The Youth Support Advocate classification offers essential peer support to young individuals facing mental health challenges within the community. This role is pivotal in facilitating connections with service providers, addressing transportation barriers, and overcoming obstacles that hinder access to necessary treatment and support.

The Youth Support Advocate - Community Resource Center is dedicated to empowering youth and young adults dealing with behavioral and mental health challenges by delivering a range of recovery-focused services. This position collaborates with individuals to foster independence, community engagement, and mental wellness recovery.

About Mid-Columbia Center for Living:

Mid-Columbia Center for Living (MCCFL) is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) committed to providing trauma-informed and recovery-oriented services to individuals experiencing mental health and addiction issues. Our approach emphasizes safety, choice, collaboration, trust, and empowerment for both clients and staff. MCCFL serves a diverse population and employs a consumer-driven model to ensure comprehensive care addressing both physical and mental health needs.

Qualifications:

Required Skills and Education:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to obtain Oregon Health Authority certification as a Peer Delivered Service Provider within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Experience as a mental health treatment consumer or as a family member supporting someone with mental health challenges.
  • Must be 30 years of age or younger.
  • Familiarity with youth rights and support principles, as well as current issues affecting youth and families in mental health.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and policies related to mental health, special education, and child welfare.
  • Must obtain a food handler's permit within 30 days of employment.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record for client service and travel purposes.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage regularly with clients, providing training in independent living skills and documenting interactions.
  • Maintain accurate client records using an electronic health record system.
  • Advocate for clients and promote self-advocacy while building community networks.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to address client concerns and participate in team meetings.
  • Organize and oversee group activities, ensuring safety and facilitating transportation as needed.
  • Provide support for other Peer Advocates as required.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures.
