Overview

The Fleet Operations Manager serves as a vital link between the organization, drivers, and clients. This role involves overseeing a designated department (Feed or Live Haul) while providing guidance and mentorship to a team of skilled drivers, all aimed at achieving exceptional customer service and key organizational objectives. The Fleet Operations Manager will liaise with clients regarding fleet activities to optimize driver utilization and company resources. Additionally, this position may involve planning activities in conjunction with customer engagement.

Responsibilities


• Supervise a dedicated fleet of professional drivers, ensuring performance, attendance, safety, and quality standards are met.

• Oversee, direct, and coordinate all transportation operations within the assigned department.

• Accountable for service failures (Driver, Dispatch, Planning), communication, equipment management, utilization, driver turnover, fuel efficiency (MPG, out of network, idle time, out of route miles), safety (initiatives, accidents, worker's compensation, random drug testing), and maintenance (preventive maintenance services, equipment inspections).

• Foster customer relationships through effective communication and regular client visits.

• Provide daily updates to the Position Control spreadsheet.

• Review and issue coaching based on insights from Lytx cameras.

• Track and manage attendance, time-off, and home time requests in line with departmental expectations.

• Maintain constructive and productive communication with drivers to ensure timely deliveries, minimize service failures, and reduce turnover rates.

• Receive estimated times of arrival (ETAs) and planned times of arrival (PTAs) and manage them throughout the day.

• Confirm load assignments and communicate expectations for performance, conduct, and safety, providing ongoing feedback to professional drivers.

• Monitor and trace loads to follow up with clients regarding late pickups or deliveries, as well as any changes that may arise.

• Collaborate with other internal departments to resolve customer or company-related issues as necessary.

• Adhere to established procedures and best practices to ensure consistency and quality.

• Manage preventive maintenance schedules for both tractors and trailers.

• Assist drivers with payroll inquiries, advances, and fuel-related issues.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

• Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.

• Familiarity with DOT regulations and driver hours of service is essential.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment.

• Effective people management skills.

• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

• Valid CDL (when applicable).

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in transportation required.

• Leadership experience is preferred.

Covenant's compensation philosophy aims to establish a competitive total compensation strategy that reflects the current market value of a position while considering individual factors such as performance, tenure, experience, level of responsibility, and loyalty to the company. The system is designed to be objective and non-discriminatory.
Pay Range: $49,657.32 - $77,923.79
Pay Grade: 8
