The Fleet Operations Manager serves as a vital link between the organization, drivers, and clients. This role is responsible for overseeing a designated department (Feed or Live Haul) while providing guidance and support to a team of skilled drivers, ensuring the achievement of specific customer service and company objectives. The Fleet Operations Manager will also engage with clients to optimize driver utilization and company resources, and may participate in strategic planning activities.
Responsibilities
• Supervise a dedicated team of professional drivers, focusing on performance metrics, attendance, safety, and quality standards.
• Oversee, direct, and coordinate all transportation operations within the assigned department.
• Accountable for service disruptions (Driver, Dispatch, Planning), communication, equipment management, utilization rates, driver retention, fuel efficiency (MPG, out-of-network usage, idle time, out-of-route miles), safety protocols (initiatives, accidents, worker's compensation, random drug testing), and maintenance schedules (preventive maintenance, equipment inspections).
• Foster strong customer relationships through effective communication and regular client visits.
• Provide daily updates to the Position Control spreadsheet.
• Review and deliver coaching based on insights from Lytx camera footage.
• Monitor and manage attendance, time-off requests, and home time in line with departmental expectations.
• Maintain constructive communication with drivers to ensure timely deliveries, minimize service failures, and reduce turnover rates.
• Track estimated times of arrival (ETAs) and projected times of arrival (PTAs) throughout the day.
• Confirm load assignments and manage expectations for performance, conduct, and safety, providing continuous feedback to drivers.
• Monitor and trace loads to facilitate customer updates regarding late pickups or deliveries, as well as any changes to load assignments.
• Collaborate with other internal departments to address customer or company-related issues as needed.
• Adhere to established procedures and best practices to ensure consistency and quality in operations.
• Manage preventive maintenance schedules for both tractors and trailers.
• Assist drivers with payroll inquiries, advances, and fuel-related issues.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
• Familiarity with DOT regulations and driver hours of service is essential.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Effective people management skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid CDL (if applicable).
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in transportation required.
• Leadership experience is preferred.

Covenant's compensation philosophy aims to establish a competitive total compensation strategy that reflects the current market value of a position while considering individual factors such as performance, tenure, experience, level of responsibility, and loyalty to the company. The compensation system is designed to be objective and non-discriminatory.
Pay Range: $49,657.32 - $77,923.79
Pay Grade: 8
