Position Overview:

The role of the System Safety Engineer is pivotal in collaborating with design teams to enhance safety technologies across our advanced Ground Combat Vehicle platforms. This position is integrated within the Digital Systems Software Engineering (DSSE) team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate System Safety Engineering support across the safety engineering team.
  • Assess customer requirements for System Safety and verify vehicle compliance.
  • Conduct necessary System Safety analyses to inform design modifications.
  • Assist the System Engineering Department in the creation of the System Specification Document, focusing on safety requirement management, including definition, connectivity, traceability, and validation.
  • Develop Hazard Tracking Systems (HTS) and perform Preliminary and Functional Hazard Analyses (PHA & FHA) as needed to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Generate System Safety reports for submission to clients as required.
  • Establish and manage Human/System Interface Databases, Hazard Logs, and Risk Registers while overseeing Hazard Tracking.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to identify safety hazards and devise mitigation strategies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; less experience may be considered with an advanced degree.
  • Proficient in developing safety hazard analyses, safety concepts, and hazard mitigation strategies.
  • Demonstrated capability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills and organizational abilities to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Experience with Military Vehicles and familiarity with MIL-STD-882E is preferred.
  • Knowledge of MBSE, CAMEO, Team Center, JIRA, Confluence, and DOORS is advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project).
  • Experience with laboratory and test/analysis equipment is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Certification in System Safety (e.g., ISO 26262 training) is desirable.
  • Experience in System Safety and/or Human Factors/Ergonomics within product development.
  • Familiarity with military safety standards (e.g., MIL-STD-882, MIL-STD-1472) is preferred.
  • Experience with software-controlled safety-critical systems and high-voltage autonomous software embedded systems.
  • Experience in an AGILE work environment.
  • Experience in developing and implementing safety processes and plans, particularly in defense, automotive, or aerospace sectors.
  • Familiarity with various system architecture designs.
  • Experience with modeling environments such as Cameo System Modeler.
  • Understanding of the product development cycle and AGILE methodology.
  • Experience with Functional Hazard Analysis and the ability to construct and update Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Event Tree Analyses (ETA).
