POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Medical Practice Manager, this role encompasses essential medical assistant duties alongside various other responsibilities. The Medical Assistant will execute blood draws and perform EKGs under the supervision of the DTC Clinical staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts all standard medical assistant tasks consistently, adhering to established policies and best practices while respecting patient privacy and dignity.
  • Accurately measures and records vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Executes blood draws and specimen collection following infection control protocols and physician directives.
  • Prepares specimens for laboratory pickup in accordance with policy.
  • Ensures proper identification of specimens and matches them with the corresponding request forms.
  • Processes specimens as necessary, including centrifugation and refrigeration.
  • Orders laboratory tests promptly based on physician orders and monitors test results.
  • Communicates any canceled lab tests to the physician in writing.
  • Coordinates Home Draw Labs as needed.
  • Maintains an ongoing inventory of lab supplies and places orders as required, following the approval process.
  • Ensures examination rooms are fully stocked with necessary medical supplies.
  • Administers EKGs in line with established protocols and service standards while upholding patient rights.
  • Performs routine tests such as dipstick, blood glucose finger sticks, and INR tests in accordance with best practices.
  • Delivers services in compliance with safety procedures and infection control standards, prioritizing participant health and safety.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding all participant information.
  • Assists in transporting participants using wheelchairs and supports ambulatory patients within the facility.
  • Provides assistance during transfers to and from wheelchairs, beds, and other equipment.
  • Offers help to participants with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed.
  • Supports physicians as requested, including translation and preparation of examination equipment.
  • Actively seeks feedback and additional training for any unclear job responsibilities.
  • Addresses customer concerns and grievances promptly and courteously, collaborating with other departments to resolve issues.
  • Facilitates the scheduling of follow-up visits and transportation for participants.
  • Provides coverage for the front desk area when necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week

WORKING HOURS: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of medical technician training and vision screening training.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in venipuncture, preferably with elderly patients; must be proficient in computer usage.

Licensure/Certification: Medical Assistant Certification required; must be a certified Phlebotomist and EKG technician.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates must be able to meet specific physical demands essential to the role, including:

  • Standing: Up to 6 hours per day.
  • Sitting: Sedentary work for up to 6-8 hours consecutively.
  • Lifting: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist patients safely.
  • Bending/Squatting: Required for patient care and use of medical supplies.
  • Mobility: Must be able to navigate stairs and walk between various work areas.
  • Fine Motor Skills: Proficiency in operating medical equipment and tools.
  • Visual and Auditory Requirements: Ability to assess patients visually and listen attentively to information.
  • Cognitive Skills: Strong decision-making and analytical abilities.
