POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of the Medical Practice Manager, this role is responsible for executing standard medical assistant duties along with additional necessary tasks. The Medical Assistant will work under the supervision of the DTC Clinical staff to perform blood draws and EKGs, ensuring all procedures are conducted with precision and care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts all standard medical assistant duties consistently, adhering to established policies and best practices while respecting patient privacy and dignity.
- Accurately measures and records vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Performs blood draws and specimen collection following infection control protocols and physician orders.
- Prepares specimens for laboratory processing in accordance with established guidelines.
- Ensures correct identification of specimens and matches them with corresponding request forms.
- Processes specimens as required, including centrifugation and refrigeration, in line with policy.
- Orders laboratory tests promptly based on physician directives and monitors test results.
- Communicates any canceled lab tests to the physician in writing.
- Coordinates home lab draws and maintains ongoing access to relevant reports through software.
- Monitors lab supply inventory and places orders as needed, following the approval process.
- Ensures examination rooms are fully stocked with necessary medical supplies at all times.
- Conducts EKGs and routine tests such as dipstick and glucose finger sticks, adhering to safety and best practice standards.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of all patient information.
- Assists in transporting patients within the facility and provides support during transfers.
- Offers assistance to patients with daily living activities as needed.
- Supports physicians by preparing examination equipment and providing translation services when required.
- Actively seeks feedback and additional training to enhance job performance.
- Addresses customer concerns and grievances promptly and courteously, collaborating with other departments as necessary.
- Facilitates follow-up visits and transportation arrangements for patients.
- Provides coverage for front desk operations when required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, typically from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of medical technician training and vision screening training.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in venipuncture, preferably with elderly patients; proficiency in computer use is essential.
Certification: Medical Assistant Certification required (must also be a certified Phlebotomist) and EKG certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, including:
- Standing: Up to 6 hours per day.
- Sitting: Sedentary work for up to 6-8 hours at a time.
- Lifting: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist patients safely.
- Bending/Squatting: Must be able to bend or squat as needed for patient care.
- Mobility: Ability to navigate stairs and walk between work areas throughout the day.
- Fine Motor Skills: Proficiency in using medical equipment and performing tasks requiring dexterity.
- Vision: Capability to visually assess patients and read documentation accurately.
- Hearing: Ability to listen attentively and communicate effectively with patients and staff.
- Cognitive Skills: Strong decision-making and analytical abilities are essential for job performance.
