The selected candidate will provide essential financial assistance to the Business Office, focusing on inmate payroll operations. The incumbent will perform technical fiscal and accounting tasks, including the preparation and maintenance of financial records and reports. It is crucial to ensure that all accounting activities comply with the policies and procedures of the Department of Corrections and the Department of Accounts.

Employment Conditions

This is a wage position with a limitation of 1,500 working hours per agency within a designated 12-month timeframe. Employees in this role will not exceed an average of 29 hours per week. Please note that this position does not offer state benefits.

Essential Qualifications

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A demonstrated ability to handle detailed numerical work and perform rapid and accurate mathematical calculations is required. Familiarity with sound bookkeeping and accounting principles is essential. Candidates should have the capability to prepare standard financial reports and statements, along with considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel, is necessary for fulfilling office support duties. Experience with automated databases beyond Microsoft Office is also required. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for effective interaction with employees and staff. The ability to interpret and adhere to prescribed operating instructions and related policies is critical. Recent experience with office procedures, data entry, and record maintenance is preferred.

Additional Preferences

Experience in accounting is advantageous. Familiarity with CORIS, Inmate Pay, Inmate Trust, and state financial systems such as CARS, CARDINAL, and FAACS is preferred. Knowledge of state travel policies is also beneficial.
