About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Resettlement & Placement Case Worker to join our Refugee Services team at Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing resettlement case work for 150 clients per year, ensuring their successful integration into our community.

Main Responsibilities

Client Services

  • Provide resettlement orientation and develop individualized service plans for each refugee family, taking into account their unique needs, challenges, and goals.
  • Follow up with clients to ensure their service plans are being implemented effectively and make adjustments as needed.
  • Analyze client situations and make referrals to Employment, Match Grant, RCA, ESL, and other relevant programs to support their self-sufficiency.
  • Conduct intake processes with Special Immigrant Visa Holders and Asylees to determine their eligibility for federal Reception and Placement program services.
  • Communicate with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services and act on behalf of clients to resolve issues related to Employment Authorization Documents.
  • Apply for government documents and benefits, such as Food Stamps and Medicaid, to support clients' well-being.
  • Ensure school-age children have required immunizations and enroll them in school.
  • Assess clients with special problems and make referrals to solve these issues.
  • Provide interpretation and transportation services as needed.
  • Assist with employment services, including job interviews, applications, and follow-up.
  • Perform advocacy work for refugees as needed.

Documentation

  • Document all services provided in client files and case notes, adhering to program guidelines.
  • Complete client applications in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prepare and submit reports as required.
Qualifications, Skills, & Experience

We are seeking a candidate with a Bachelor's degree and fluency in either Spanish, Burmese, or Rohingya. Prior experience in immigration or working with refugees is essential, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate will possess high independent judgment, flexibility, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work a flexible schedule, including some late nights and weekends. A valid driver's license and automobile liability insurance are also required.
