We are currently seeking a Construction Layout Specialist with a focus on concrete applications. This role involves collaborating with concrete carpenters to establish precise building placements, foundations, walls, embedded components, and anchor bolts. Ensuring projects meet specified tolerances and quality standards is a key responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Construction Layout Specialist, your daily tasks will encompass, but are not limited to:
  • Planning, establishing, and maintaining layout control for designated construction projects while identifying any discrepancies.
  • Setting up building corners and permanent reference points for accurate verification of building locations.
  • Reviewing existing elevations on drawings related to roadways and utilities.
  • Defining column center lines and wall placements, ensuring that the exterior structure is not compromised.
  • Aligning structural steel frames and verifying column placements.
  • Establishing and maintaining benchmarks and control lines on each floor for layout purposes, ensuring that team members utilize the correct elevations and control lines.
  • Monitoring slab elevation and alignment during concrete placements.
  • Conducting as-built surveys to confirm the accurate positioning of work and identifying any conflicts, while assisting in maintaining as-built documentation.
  • Collaborating with project staff to secure certified layouts from independent engineering sources for monument and baseline control verification.
  • Accurately calculating quantities of earth, rock, and concrete.
  • Coordinating shop drawings with contract drawings, verifying their accuracy, and suggesting solutions for any discrepancies.
  • Maintaining and calibrating engineering equipment responsibly.
  • Compiling and managing project records and as-built documents, ensuring adherence to storage protocols.
Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following experience, knowledge, and skills:
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in building layout and proficiency with Total Station.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic familiarity with Trimble and Nikon equipment.
  • Strong understanding of research methodologies, data analysis, and estimation techniques.
  • Experience in General Trade Carpentry.

  • Ability to build effective working relationships with a diverse range of individuals, including internal and external stakeholders.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal oversight, effectively planning, scheduling, and organizing tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Strong commitment to following instructions, responding to management guidance, and fulfilling responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
The majority of work is conducted outdoors at construction sites and within office trailers where project oversight occurs. The role may involve exposure to loud noises from construction equipment. Personal protective equipment is required on-site.

Physical demands include:
  • Occasional standing, walking, sitting, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, utilize hands for tasks, and operate a keyboard.
  • Frequent lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
