Job Responsibilities

The Family Services Specialist, working within the APS framework, will collaborate closely with senior staff to ensure the well-being of vulnerable adults. This role involves investigating reports of abuse, neglect, and fraud. Once adequately trained, the individual will participate in an on-call rotation to address urgent situations. Additionally, this position may provide support for Child Protective Services as needed.

Key Duties Include:

  • Delivering comprehensive case management and support services to an assigned caseload.
  • Engaging with clients facing sensitive and challenging circumstances, with potential specialization in specific populations.
  • Conducting client interviews to assess needs and determine appropriate services.
  • Collaborating with families, educational institutions, and other organizations to formulate effective service plans.
  • Preparing detailed reports and facilitating referrals to relevant agencies.
  • Advocating for clients in accessing medical and financial assistance, as well as ensuring their rights are upheld.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations governing social services, including adult and child protective services.
  • Understanding of documentation and procedural requirements associated with social services programs.
  • Proficiency in interviewing techniques and interpersonal communication.
  • Awareness of socio-economic factors impacting family dynamics and challenges.
  • Knowledge of additional programs offered by the Commonwealth and community service organizations.
  • Ability to conduct thorough interviews, identify client needs, and develop actionable service plans while effectively investigating cases of abuse or neglect.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related Human Services field, or a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline accompanied by at least 2 years of relevant experience in Human Services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant experience in the relevant program area and completion of necessary training programs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required competencies.
