Transportation Infrastructure Engineer

Position Overview:
The Transportation Engineering Specialist operates under the direct supervision of the Assistant District Engineer or their appointed representative. This role is pivotal in the review, development, and execution of the Department's construction initiatives. Responsibilities encompass field assessments, data collection, plan evaluations, specification analysis, cost estimation, and the organization of stakeholder meetings. The Specialist serves as the primary liaison for all construction projects during the development phase, ensuring effective communication and coordination among project teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts thorough reviews of construction plans and specifications.
- Evaluates encroachment permit project plans and addresses field-related issues as required.
- Facilitates and participates in project field reviews.
- Prepares comprehensive reports and documentation related to construction projects and associated programs.
- Acts as the District representative in public and stakeholder meetings, utilizing a state vehicle as necessary.
- Maintains proactive communication with project team members and attends coordination meetings.
- Assists in emergency situations, including winter weather events, by communicating roadway conditions and managing traffic control.
- Collects field data and plan information as needed.
- Implements directives and policies from upper management.
- Performs additional duties as assigned relevant to the position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of Civil Engineering related to the development and maintenance of State Highway systems.
- Federal and State regulations, agency standards, and policies pertinent to the role.
- ADOT guidelines for design, construction, and traffic control for roadway features.
- Current highway construction methodologies, including drainage and traffic engineering.
- Google applications and tools.
Skills in:
- Analyzing and interpreting diverse engineering data.
- Researching and understanding technical engineering documents.
- Effective oral and written communication, along with organizational skills.
- Building interpersonal relationships with various stakeholders.
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively and interpret construction plans and specifications.
- Research, analyze, and synthesize engineering data.
- Collaborate within a team environment.
- Exercise independent judgment in line with agency standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a Transportation Engineering Technician at grade S7 or higher, along with completion of the ADOT EIT Program.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
This position necessitates the operation of a vehicle as a core function. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and meet all training and record check requirements.
