Job Summary

The University of Chicago's Smart Museum of Art seeks a highly skilled and experienced Collections Manager to oversee the management of the museum's collection and loans. This is a full-time, on-site position that requires strong leadership and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Hire, train, and supervise collections and exhibitions staff, including the Assistant Registrar and temporary preparators.
  • Oversee all aspects of the management of the Smart Museum collection, including conservation, storage, and loans.
  • Manage the exhibition calendar and ensure the planning and coordination of work required to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Develop and implement project plans to ensure high-quality management of ongoing workload and new initiatives.
  • Maintain the Smart's Collections Management Policy and Emergency Preparedness Plan, and communicate and enforce these policies and best practices at the Smart and with all staff.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in collections management, exhibition planning, and staff supervision. They will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and have excellent communication and leadership skills.
