Job Overview

The City of New Albany, Indiana is on the lookout for a dynamic individual who is passionate about serving the community and enhancing recreational experiences. This seasonal part-time role is dedicated to organizing and delivering high-quality recreational and leisure programs, along with special events, while providing essential services to the public.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Support the planning, execution, and assessment of various parks and recreation initiatives, including practices, camps, sports leagues, educational trips, and special events.
  2. Respond to public inquiries and concerns regarding recreational offerings and related matters.
  3. Foster partnerships with local organizations to enhance community engagement.
  4. Lead and instruct recreational programs and activities as necessary.
  5. Ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants.
  6. Manage the scheduling and use of program facilities in line with established agreements and regulations; complete necessary documentation and manage reservations as required.
  7. Handle incoming calls and provide information, directing inquiries and complaints as needed.
  8. Participate in city and industry-related meetings as required.
  9. Contribute as a team member within the department and other assigned teams.
  10. Perform additional duties as assigned.

  3. Meticulous attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  4. Ability to cultivate open and trusting relationships with colleagues and the community.
  5. Timely and accurate completion of tasks and reports.
  6. Maintain confidentiality of city information.
  7. Comprehensive knowledge of recreation program principles and techniques.
  8. Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative.

Mental and Physical Requirements:
  1. Capability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  2. Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:
  1. This role involves working in an office setting with standard office equipment, as well as outdoor locations such as sports fields.
  2. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, including in adverse weather conditions, is required.

Education and Experience:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent; a two-year college degree is preferred along with two years of experience in recreation.
  2. Proficient in computer usage, including word processing.
  3. Possession of a valid Indiana Driver's License.
  4. Current certification in CPR/AED/First Aid is preferred.

Tools and Equipment:
  1. Computer and related peripherals.
  2. Recreational equipment.
