Job Overview

The Healthcare Billing Specialist plays a crucial role in maintaining the financial health of our practice. This position requires a proactive individual with outstanding customer service skills to manage billing processes effectively.

Our practice prioritizes patient interaction, making exceptional customer service essential. Familiarity with Epic Software is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing and posting charges accurately.
  • Managing billing for secondary claims.
  • Reviewing insurance accounts receivable reports monthly, including handling appeals, making insurance calls, correcting errors, and resubmitting claims.
  • Overseeing patient accounts receivable, which involves contacting patients regarding overdue accounts, sending reminder letters, verifying insurance coverage, setting up payment plans, and referring accounts for collections.
  • Responding promptly to patient inquiries via phone and email, assisting with payment processing and receipt issuance.
  • Identifying ongoing charge entry or denial issues that may impact reimbursement and collaborating with management for resolution.
  • Understanding and explaining EOBs, insurance contracts, and guidelines to patients.
  • Utilizing knowledge of each payer's fee schedule to ensure accurate payment receipt.
  • Being knowledgeable about various insurance types, including HMO, PPO, EPO, POS, self-pay, and government policies related to reimbursement.
  • Collaborating with management on special projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • Medical Billing Certification or a minimum of one year of relevant experience is mandatory.
  • Excellent customer service abilities, capable of managing a high volume of phone inquiries.
  • In-depth understanding of medical billing and coding, along with familiarity with multiple insurance providers, including Medicare and private HMOs and PPOs.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision while demonstrating responsibility and maturity.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and Medical Billing Software.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Experience in pediatric or cardiology settings is preferred.
