About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Open Enrollment Support Specialist to join our team at the Office of the Insurance Commissioner. As a key member of our Consumer Advocacy Program Unit, you will play a critical role in supporting the mission of the Office by advocating on behalf of consumers, educating the public on insurance matters, and applying insurance laws and rules to licensed insurance companies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Explain complex insurance rules and procedures to consumers, answer questions, and resolve matters related to property, casualty, life, health, and disability lines of insurance.
  • Respond to frequently asked questions from callers regarding SHIBA and Producer Licensing and Oversight program-related insurance issues.
  • Assist consumers and companies in troubleshooting online application issues.
  • Equitably distribute daily tasks and assignments to other Insurance Technicians on a rotational basis.
  • Ensure seamless customer service by covering phone and live chat duties.
  • Perform clerical work as needed in the Consumer Resource Unit, including answering hotline and chat inquiries, scanning documents, mailing, faxing, etc.
Requirements
  • GED/Diploma and two years' experience as an Insurance Technician 1 or equivalent experience providing basic and general written or telephonic customer service and performing clerical duties in a call center or similar environment.
  • Ability to accurately type or input at least a minimum of 40 words per minute.
  • Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of experience entering and retrieving data from software systems or databases to respond to customer inquiries and to produce routine reports.
  • Demonstrated evidence of superior writing skills and a scrupulous attention to detail.
