About River Partners

Founded in 1998, River Partners is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to revitalizing California's river ecosystems. We implement an innovative conservation model that leverages restored river systems to foster a sustainable future for both the environment and local communities.

By integrating modern agricultural techniques, advanced scientific research, and diverse partnerships, we work to restore river habitats and essential wildlife corridors at an unmatched scale. Our organization has successfully rehabilitated more habitat along California's impaired rivers than any other entity in the western United States, executing numerous projects across nearly 20,000 acres.

Our Mission

Healthy rivers are vital for a prosperous California, providing essential resources for agriculture, economy, and biodiversity. Despite being a biodiversity hotspot, only 5% of our native riverside habitats remain intact, necessitating urgent restoration efforts.

Position Responsibilities:

The Planning Coordinator collaborates with the Planning Director and team members to identify, develop, and assess potential restoration projects. This role is crucial for enabling River Partners to secure funding, design, permit, and execute new initiatives.

Key Duties Include:

  • Support the development and execution of planning contracts aimed at identifying project opportunities.
  • Engage with partner organizations, agencies, landowners, and stakeholders to advance planning initiatives.
  • Assist in identifying and pursuing funding opportunities for project analysis, planning, design, and implementation.
  • Facilitate River Partners' involvement in various planning processes and collaborative efforts.
  • Outreach to policymakers and elected officials regarding project priorities.
  • Assist the Planning Director with administrative project management tasks.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to stakeholders and the public, representing the organization and its mission.
  • Travel to project sites to engage with landowners and assess opportunities.
  • Contribute to other departmental goals as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in planning, environmental science, or a related field; or an undergraduate degree with relevant professional experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in natural resource management or restoration.
  • Valid California driver's license with no restrictions.

Desired Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of hydrology and ecology specific to Central Valley rivers.
  • Experience in planning and stakeholder engagement related to river restoration.
  • Familiarity with local governance institutions and environmental organizations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • High ethical standards and integrity.
  • Passion for River Partners' mission.
