Founded in 1998, River Partners is a dedicated nonprofit organization focused on revitalizing California's river ecosystems. Our innovative conservation model leverages restored river habitats to foster a sustainable future for both the environment and local communities.
Through the integration of modern agricultural techniques, advanced scientific research, and collaborative partnerships, we have successfully reforested and restored river landscapes and vital wildlife corridors across nearly 20,000 acres in California. Our initiatives yield significant benefits for wildlife conservation, flood management, climate resilience, water preservation, and community health.
Position Summary:
The Planning Coordinator collaborates closely with the Planning Director and the River Partners team to identify, nurture, and assess potential restoration project opportunities. This role is essential for enabling River Partners to secure funding, design, permit, and execute new projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the development and implementation of planning contracts and initiatives aimed at uncovering project opportunities.
- Engage with partner organizations, governmental agencies, landowners, and stakeholders to advance planning efforts.
- Assist in identifying and pursuing funding sources for project analysis, planning, design, and execution.
- Facilitate River Partners' involvement in various planning processes and collaborative efforts at multiple governmental levels.
- Outreach to policymakers and elected officials to advocate for River Partners' projects and priorities.
- Assist the Planning Director with administrative tasks related to project management, including invoicing and progress reporting.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to stakeholders and the public, representing the organization and its mission.
- Travel to project sites to interact with landowners and assess potential project opportunities.
- Contribute to other departmental goals as needed, including interdepartmental training and media outreach.
Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in planning, environmental science, or a related field; or an undergraduate degree with relevant professional experience.
- A minimum of five years of experience in natural resource management or restoration.
- Valid California driver's license with no restrictions.
Desired Skills:
- Strong understanding of hydrology and ecology specific to Central Valley rivers and floodplains.
- Experience in planning, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy related to river restoration.
- Familiarity with Central Valley governance, community organizations, and environmental nonprofits.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Strong analytical skills for assessing complex situations and developing effective solutions.
- Commitment to the mission of River Partners and a high standard of integrity.
