Job Summary:

As a Per Diem Patient Service Clerk at Upstate University Hospital, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our medical offices. Your primary responsibility will be to provide exceptional patient service, handling phone calls, scheduling appointments, and preparing charts for the next day's appointments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Answer phone calls, take accurate messages, and triage calls to ensure timely responses to patient inquiries.
  • Schedule new patient and follow-up appointments, ensuring that all necessary information is collected and documented.
  • Prepare charts for the next day's appointments, reviewing patient orders and ensuring that all pertinent information is included.
  • Verify insurance eligibility, obtain necessary authorizations, and ensure that tests ordered are reflective of the patient's insurance company contract.
  • Document all interactions and updates in the patient's medical record, adhering to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist with chart label preparation, patient database updates, and sending written correspondence to patients regarding appointment changes and no-shows.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; two years of clerical support experience, preferably in a medical setting, is preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel) and knowledge of EPIC is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
