Employee Relations Specialist

The Employee Relations Specialist plays a critical role in fostering a positive and inclusive work environment at American Veterinary Group. This position serves as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees, providing guidance on employee relations, employment law, and organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performance Management: Provides expert guidance to leaders on performance evaluation, compliance, coaching, and counseling. Develops and delivers training programs to optimize employee performance and minimize legal risk.
  • Investigations: Conducts thorough and timely investigations into employee complaints, ensuring due diligence and adherence to company policies. Makes recommendations to resolve ER matters and develops action plans to motivate and build employee morale.
  • Employment Practices: Offers guidance and recommendations on employment practices, policy, and employment laws. Provides advice and counsel to leaders on issues such as Reasonable Accommodations and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Analytics: Analyzes exit interviews and new hire survey trends to develop solutions and programs to engage and retain a high-quality workforce.
  • Training: Develops and delivers HR training programs, creating HR toolkits for leadership and staff.
  • Partnerships: Collaborates with HR leadership to design and implement new approaches to improve business objectives, productivity, and HR development.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management or Human Resources preferred or equivalent
  • SHRM or HRCI certification preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in a Human Resources role, specifically dealing with employee relations issues, investigations, performance management, recruiting, and federal and state-respective employment laws
  • Advanced knowledge of HRIS and ability to learn new technical systems
  • Experience working for a company with a large employee base in multiple states
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, OneNote, Excel, and Word
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to express and logically articulate a point of view
  • Professional demeanor, with the right amount of empathy and compassion
  • Ability to listen with patience and respond to high-level, controversial issues using good judgment
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy in resolving confidential and sensitive issues
  • Ability to prioritize, work independently, and time manage work assignments in a high-paced work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders
  • Excellent organization and time management skills to drive execution of projects and tasks, and meet outlined objectives
  • Ability to interact effectively and establish working relationships with people at all organizational levels
  • A positive, can-do attitude; strong people skills/emotional intelligence; excellent analytical skills; willingness to roll up your sleeves and chip in to help the team
