OVERVIEW:

The Telecommunications Equipment Specialist III plays a crucial role in the setup and upkeep of telecommunication apparatus for various service providers.

This encompasses fiber optics, transport systems, and all essential infrastructures within a telecommunications facility.

This senior position is dedicated to delivering exceptional service in customer technical environments, including data centers, mobile switch centers, and enterprise locations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute the physical installation, removal, or modification of operational and non-operational equipment, including:
o Cable management systems
o Data cabinets, servers, switches, routers, and related devices
o Distribution frames and power panels

  • Identify, label, measure, terminate, and route cables supplying AC and/or DC power or data transmission in various technical environments.
  • Conduct performance testing and document the operational characteristics of hardware and software; assess efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems.
  • Perform system testing and integration activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as they occur.
  • Interpret detailed specifications, blueprints, and method of procedures (MOPs).
  • Ensure quality validation on both in-progress and completed tasks.
  • Complete necessary documentation (e.g., expense reports, timesheets, job logs) including daily status updates as required.
  • May supervise less experienced technicians; take responsibility for the successful execution of installation projects.
  • Serve as a point of contact for customers; communicate with clients and local supervisors regarding project updates.
  • Collaborate with all organizational members including Installation, Engineering, and Project Management teams.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; technical or college degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in telecommunication equipment installation is required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of industry standards and quality benchmarks.
  • Familiarity with transport equipment from manufacturers such as Ciena, Fujitsu, Cisco, Calix, Adtran, Nortel, and Nokia.
  • Experience with fiber optic cabling and AC/DC power installation and testing methodologies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and mobile applications.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical drawings and documentation.
  • Strong mechanical skills and experience with basic power tools.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication abilities.
  • Proven problem-solving skills; capable of defining issues, gathering data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and proof of insurance.
  • Must possess reliable transportation and the capability to transport minor job-related tools and equipment to various work sites.
