Job Summary

As a key member of our team, the Ophthalmic Assistant Certified will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and supporting our physicians in providing top-notch eye care services. This role requires a high level of technical proficiency, strong communication skills, and a passion for helping others.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain brief medical histories and chief complaints from patients, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Maintain patient records via electronic medical records, adhering to strict confidentiality and data protection protocols.
  • Assist with office procedures, including setting up equipment and preparing patients for exams.
  • Perform a range of technical procedures, including autorefraction, refraction, visual field testing, and OCT scans, within the scope of their training and certification.
  • Support physicians during patient exams, taking notes and performing tasks as needed.
  • Schedule surgeries, follow-up appointments, and referrals, ensuring seamless communication with patients and other healthcare professionals.
  • Phone and fax prescriptions for medications and glasses, following physician orders and adhering to strict protocols.
  • Receive and return phone calls, screening and forwarding those requiring physician action.
  • Monitor and maintain stock of supplies and equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and patient satisfaction.
  • Provide education and training to patients and their families, promoting health literacy and empowerment.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
  • This is a non-management role that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum Education: Job-related coursework beyond high school, completion of an Ophthalmology Certification Program.

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses
  • CERT OPHTHALMOLOGY ASSISTANT - C073.
