Job Summary

As a certified ophthalmic assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our team of healthcare professionals. Your responsibilities will include performing various technical procedures, obtaining medical information from patients, and using this information to perform related tasks. You will also assist with obtaining pre-certifications and performing referrals when needed for patients. Key Accountabilities
  • Obtain a brief medical history and chief complaint from patients.
  • Maintain patient medical records via electronic medical records.
  • Set up and assist with office procedures.
  • Perform within the scope of training and certification to do procedures/tests, including autorefraction, refraction, Humphrey visual field, OCT, IOL master, pachymeter, and other related tasks.
  • Assist physicians by scribing and performing various tasks during patient exams.
  • Schedule surgeries, follow-up appointments, and referrals as requested. Obtain pre-certification for all surgeries.
  • Phone/fax in prescriptions for medications and glasses per physician orders.
  • Receive and return phone calls, screening and forwarding those requiring physician action.
  • Monitor and maintain stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Provide education/training to patients and families.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent OR post-high school diploma/highest degree earned.
  • Completion of Ophthalmology Certification Program.

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

  • CERT OPHTHALMOLOGY ASSISTANT - C073.
