Job Summary:
The Youth Behavioral Support Specialist (YBSS) plays a crucial role in executing specific components of a treatment strategy for assigned youth in Montgomery County and/or Delaware County. The YBSS is tasked with instructing and reinforcing positive, adaptive skills, ensuring these skills are transferred to family members or educational settings. Services are delivered in various environments, including schools, homes, and community settings, either individually or in group formats.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must fulfill one of the following criteria:
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in behavioral health service provision.
    • Completion of a 40-hour training covering the RBT Task List, certified by a BCBA or BCaBA.
    • Possession of a behavioral health or behavioral analysis certification from an NCCA or ANSI accredited organization.
    • Certification as BCaBA, RBT, or BCAT.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of clinical protocols, service expectations, and authorization processes.
  • Capacity to exercise sound judgment.
  • Adept at managing multiple tasks and work-related pressures.
  • Ability to build rapport with individuals.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintain accurate recordkeeping and documentation.
  • Engage in regular supervision in accordance with program policies and regulatory standards.
  • Complete progress notes and encounter forms promptly.
  • Adhere to the regulations of the environment where services are delivered.
  • Support youth in exhibiting appropriate behaviors.
  • Encourage the use of adaptive, pro-social behaviors through consistent reinforcement.
  • Monitor youth participation in activities, providing necessary support.
  • Deliver skill instruction as outlined in the Individual Treatment Plan (ITP).
  • Conduct crisis intervention sessions as required.
  • Implement the least restrictive and least intrusive methods to address behavioral challenges.
  • Contribute to the development of the youth's ITP.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the treatment team to provide and receive feedback on youth progress.
Supervision and Training:
  • YBSSs are expected to participate in 2-4 hours of supervision monthly, depending on regulatory requirements.
  • Supervision will cover intervention strategies, progress towards goals, and necessary adjustments to the ITP.
  • New hires without prior experience must undergo 6 hours of onsite supervision before working independently.
  • Direct observation of service delivery is required every 2-4 months.
Training Requirements:
  • All new employees must complete mandated orientation and required training sessions.
  • Those without prior experience will undergo training in various essential topics, including:
    • Child protection laws and mandated reporting.
    • Developmental stages of children and adolescents.
    • Understanding psychotropic medications and their side effects.
    • Behavioral challenges in youth.
    • Professional ethics and cultural considerations in treatment.
    • Engagement strategies for children and families.
    • The role of the YBSS in various settings.
    • Crisis management and de-escalation techniques.
    • Documentation guidelines.
    • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Experienced YBSSs must complete at least 20 hours of relevant training annually.
Work Environment:
  • Services are provided in family homes, educational institutions, and community settings.
  • Travel between various work locations may be necessary.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Capacity to handle work-related stress effectively.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Physical ability to navigate stairs and lift up to 20 pounds.
