POSITION SUMMARY:

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) plays a crucial role in executing specific components of a treatment strategy for assigned youth in Montgomery County and/or Delaware County. The BHT is also tasked with instructing and reinforcing positive, adaptive skills and ensuring these skills are transferred to family members or educational settings. Services are delivered in various environments including the youth's school, home, and community, either individually or in group settings.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Must satisfy ONE of the following criteria:
    • Possess 2+ years of experience in delivering behavioral health services.
    • Have completed a 40-hour training encompassing the RBT Task List, certified by a BCBA or BCaBA.
    • Hold a behavioral health or behavioral analysis certification from an NCCA or ANSI accredited organization.
    • Possess one of the following certifications: BCaBA, RBT, or BCAT.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of clinical protocols, service expectations, and authorization processes.
  • Capability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Adept at managing multiple tasks and handling work-related stress.
  • Ability to build rapport with diverse individuals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Highlighted responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintain accurate recordkeeping and documentation.
  • Engage consistently in supervision in accordance with program policies and regulatory standards.
  • Complete progress notes and encounter forms within a 24-hour timeframe.
  • Adhere to the rules of the environment where services are provided.
  • Assist youth in exhibiting appropriate behavior.
  • Encourage the youth's use of adaptive, pro-social behavior through regular reinforcement.
  • Oversee and support the youth's involvement in activities as necessary.
  • Deliver skill instruction as specified in the youth's Individual Treatment Plan (ITP).
  • Conduct crisis intervention sessions when required.
  • Utilize the least restrictive and least intrusive methods to address behavioral challenges.
  • Contribute to the development of the youth's ITP.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with treatment team members to exchange feedback regarding the youth's progress.
SUPERVISION AND EVALUATION:
  • BHTs are expected to participate in 2-4 hours of supervision monthly, depending on regulatory requirements.
  • Supervision will encompass discussions about interventions, progress towards goals, and necessary adjustments to the ITP.
  • Individuals without prior BHT experience must engage in 6 hours of onsite supervision before working independently.
  • Direct observation of service implementation is required every 2-4 months.
TRAINING OBLIGATIONS:
  • All new hires must attend mandatory orientation and complete required training sessions.
  • Individuals without prior BHT experience will undergo training covering:
    • CPSL and mandated reporting protocols.
    • Child and adolescent developmental stages.
    • Psychotropic medications and their side effects.
    • Management of externalizing and disruptive behaviors in youth.
    • Professional ethics and cultural considerations in treatment.
    • Strategies for engaging children/youth and families in services.
    • The role of the BHT in various settings and collaboration with families.
    • Crisis intervention and behavior management techniques.
    • Understanding serious emotional disturbances and behavioral needs in youth.
    • Documentation guidelines.
    • Communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experienced BHTs must complete at least 20 hours of annual training relevant to their job functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Services are provided in family homes, educational institutions, and community settings.
  • Travel between work sites may be necessary.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Capable of handling work-related stress.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and interpersonal skills.
  • Possesses strong organizational and communication capabilities.
  • Must be able to navigate stairs and lift up to 20 pounds.
