Organization Overview:
The Lincoln Center for Family and Youth ("TLC") has been a pivotal social enterprise in the Greater Philadelphia Area for over five decades. Established in 1970 and incorporated in 1983, TLC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering innovative educational, coaching, and counseling services to public school students and their families.
Position Overview:
The Mathematics Educator is responsible for delivering academic instruction and providing socioemotional support to at-risk youth in grades 7-12 within an alternative educational environment. The role requires adaptability to meet the unique instructional needs of each student in a small, open classroom setting.
The Mathematics Educator must collaborate effectively with fellow educators, special education personnel, counselors, and social workers. A high level of authenticity, kindness, and empathy is essential to foster a classroom atmosphere that promotes both academic and socioemotional development.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitate Learning:
Develop a classroom culture where the educator is seen as a facilitator rather than a lecturer. Prepare and implement lesson plans that encourage active learning, provide personalized support tailored to each student's needs, utilize Project-Based Learning (PBL) methods, and incorporate technology to enhance and differentiate instruction. - Promote Socioemotional Development:
Offer diverse opportunities for students to cultivate their social and emotional skills while supporting their overall wellness—physical, mental, social, and emotional. - Conduct Assessments:
Assign and evaluate classwork, homework, tests, and assignments. Monitor individual student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly. Maintain accurate records of student progress. - Foster a Positive Classroom Environment:
Build compassionate classroom communities that engage learners and implement evidence-based classroom management and positive behavior support strategies. - Additional Duties:
Participate actively in departmental, school, district, and parent meetings. Maintain close communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs. Ensure all records are updated accurately and in compliance with relevant laws and policies.
- Leadership and Interpersonal Skills:
Exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities, with a proven capacity to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. - Technical Proficiency:
Strong command of the subject matter and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. - Education and Certification:
Bachelor's Degree and Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in the relevant subject area.
Work Environment:
This position is situated in a small alternative school setting catering to grades 7-12.
Work Hours:
This is a full-time role requiring 40 hours per week.
Travel Requirements:
Minimal travel is expected.
