Position Summary

We are currently seeking a qualified engineer with a minimum of three years of relevant experience to join our Municipal Engineering Services department. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, maintenance, and repair of wastewater treatment systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design efficient systems for the treatment of wastewater, ensuring the safe removal of contaminants and the return of clean water to the environment.
  • Conduct planning services in accordance with Act 537, including sewer planning for various projects.
  • Evaluate the necessity for wastewater treatment systems based on current and anticipated residential developments.
  • Perform feasibility studies for the establishment of water treatment facilities.
  • Analyze various wastewater treatment methodologies and recommend optimal solutions.
  • Assess disposal methods for sludge and develop effective treatment strategies.
  • Prepare detailed layouts and specifications for pumping and lifting systems.
  • Review and provide feedback on proposals and designs from other professionals.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses for assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with contractors and regulatory agencies on the construction of new systems.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct environmental assessments related to water and wastewater management.
  • Provide expert technical support to clients on water resource issues.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge in the field.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Role

May oversee and provide guidance to junior engineers and technical staff involved in wastewater projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required; a Master's degree is advantageous.
  • Professional Engineering Certification in Pennsylvania is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience is required; five years is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work at a desk and utilize a computer for extended periods.
  • Capability to visit construction sites for inspections.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in design and engineering software, including CAD.
  • Thorough understanding of environmental regulations and safety standards.
