Role Responsibilities

The Municipal Engineering Services division is seeking an engineer with a minimum of three years of relevant experience to design, maintain, and enhance wastewater treatment systems.

Key Duties Include:

  • Designing systems that effectively treat wastewater, ensuring the safe removal of harmful substances and the return of clean water to the environment.
  • Providing expertise in Act 537 planning, including the development of plans for sewer systems.
  • Evaluating the necessity for wastewater treatment systems based on current and future community needs; conducting feasibility studies for new treatment facilities.
  • Assessing various wastewater treatment methods and recommending the most efficient solutions.
  • Reviewing and developing sludge treatment processes to optimize waste management.
  • Creating detailed layouts and specifications for pumping and lifting systems.
  • Critically evaluating proposals and designs from other professionals in the field.
  • Conducting cost-benefit analyses for assigned projects.
  • Collaborating with contractors and regulatory agencies on the construction of new systems.
  • Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines and codes.
  • Conducting environmental assessments related to water collection, treatment, and distribution.
  • Providing technical support and expertise to clients on water resource management.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge in the field.
  • Performing additional duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This role may involve supervising and providing technical guidance to engineers, CAD technicians, and other staff involved in wastewater projects.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required; a Master's degree is advantageous.
  • Professional Engineering Certification in Pennsylvania is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience is required; five years is preferred.
Physical Requirements

Candidates should be able to:

  • Spend extended periods seated at a desk and using a computer.
  • Visit construction sites for inspections and observations.
  • Lift up to 15 pounds when necessary.
Skills and Abilities

Essential Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to design effective treatment systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CAD software, and other relevant analytical tools.
  • Thorough understanding of environmental and safety regulations.
