Job Summary:

As a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Kaiser Permanente, you will administer general and regional anesthesia for various surgical, obstetrical, and other procedures. You will work under the medical supervision of an Anesthesiologist and provide care to patients of different age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Your responsibilities will include airway management, maintenance of fluid balance, homeostasis, monitoring, and response to emergencies related to airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Uphold Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures, principles of responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws.
  • Comply with organizational rules, policies, and procedures (i.e., TJC, Title 22, Regional, and Department requirements).
  • Evaluate patients pre-operatively by interviewing and examining the patient.
  • Review the chart for relevant information.
  • In collaboration with the anesthesiologist, select an anesthetic for the patient based on the pre-operative examination.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation process in delivering services to patients of each age group served.
  • Select an anesthetic for the patient based on the pre-operative examination.
  • Evaluate the patient's response to pre-medication.
  • Communicate with the surgeon and anesthesiologist regarding special concerns of the patient.
  • Check anesthesia equipment daily and between cases to ensure safe operating conditions.
  • Prepare drugs for administration.
  • Administer anesthesia in accordance with delineated clinical privileges and any conditions or restrictions imposed.
  • Monitor the patient intraoperatively.
  • Evaluate the operative and post-operative condition of the patient and take necessary action to maintain stability.
  • Evaluate the patient post-operatively (within 24 hours).
  • Precept student nurse anesthetists.
  • Maintain an accurate accounting of controlled substances in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies as outlined in department policies and procedures.
  • Comply with organizational rules, policies, and procedures (i.e., TJC, CAC Title 22, Regional, and Department requirements).
  • Establish and maintain courteous and cooperative relations when interacting with the public, patients, staff, and other personnel.
  • May perform other duties within the scope of licensure/certification as required.
Basic Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an educational program in Nurse Anesthesia accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs and Schools.
  • Registered Nurse License (California)
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (California)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Basic Life Support
  • National Provider Identifier
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist National Certification
Additional Requirements:
  • Experience in anesthesia for major procedures involving extensive monitoring and fluid, blood, and electrolyte replacement for various age group patients.
  • CRNAs must demonstrate both technical/clinical and professional skill and ability along with all related techniques and procedures within the scope of practice as defined by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Additional skills are required in charting and documentation, knowledge of equipment and supplies, productivity, job and personal maturity communication, and education and staff development.
