Job Summary

As a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality anesthesia care to patients undergoing various surgical, obstetrical, and other procedures. Under the medical supervision of an anesthesiologist, you will administer general and regional anesthesia, manage airway, fluid balance, and homeostasis, and respond to emergencies related to airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate patients pre-operatively through interview and examination, and review charts for relevant information.
  • Select anesthetic for patients based on pre-operative examination, in collaboration with the anesthesiologist.
  • Monitor patients' responses to pre-medication and communicate with surgeons and anesthesiologists regarding special concerns.
  • Check anesthesia equipment daily and between cases to ensure safe operating conditions.
  • Administer anesthesia in accordance with delineated clinical privileges and take necessary action to maintain patient stability.
  • Evaluate patients' operative and post-operative conditions, and take necessary action to maintain stability.
  • Precept student nurse anesthetists and maintain accurate accounting of controlled substances.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies as outlined in department policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an educational program in Nurse Anesthesia accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs and Schools.
  • Registered Nurse License (California) and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (California) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Basic Life Support certifications.
  • National Provider Identifier and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist National Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in anesthesia for major procedures involving extensive monitoring and fluid, blood, and electrolyte replacement for various age group patients.
  • CRNAs must demonstrate both technical/clinical and professional skill and ability along with all related techniques and procedures within the scope of practice as defined by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs.
