The Underwriting Support Specialist I plays a crucial role within the Underwriting Department, managing the flow of incoming and outgoing documentation. This position is responsible for reserving and evaluating new business submissions, indexing and directing incoming paperwork, and reviewing print files for outgoing policy documents. The Underwriting Support Specialist I also monitors experience rating and merit changes from NCCI and state bureaus, ensuring updates or assignments are made as necessary. Additionally, they maintain ImageRight files, oversee document imports, and serve as a primary liaison to troubleshoot import system issues with IT. The role includes preparing and mailing specialized documents and tracking returned mail.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Monitors incoming quote requests, reserving, evaluating, and assigning new business submissions.
2. Scans, indexes, and directs underwriting documents into established business workflows.
3. Reviews reports from NCCI and state bureaus to identify changes in experience rating, merit, and risk ID, updating or assigning as necessary.
4. Updates and maintains ImageRight files, oversees document imports, identifies import system issues, and collaborates with IT to test and resolve these issues.
5. Reviews and approves print files for outgoing policy documents.
6. Prepares and sends specialized handling documents, ensuring compliance with mailing standards.
7. Tracks, updates, and reprocesses returned mail.
8. Ensures secure storage and destruction of archived documents.
9. Assists with special projects and initiatives as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; one year of administrative experience is preferred. Previous experience in the insurance sector is advantageous.
  • Proficient typing skills with attention to detail are essential.
  • Strong organizational abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency in PC, Windows, MS Outlook, Word, and Excel is necessary.
