Job Summary

Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP is seeking a highly skilled Litigation Docket Specialist to join our team in New York. As a key member of our Litigation Docket team, you will be responsible for maintaining a litigation docket for our New York and Princeton offices, ensuring timely and accurate calendaring of incoming documents. You will also serve as a resource for our litigation docketing clerks and specialists, providing problem-solving support, research, and training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a litigation docket, ensuring compliance and accuracy of incoming and outgoing documents.
  • Advise attorneys on state, local, and federal court rules, including court practices.
  • Manage and coordinate legal services required outside the firm, such as service of process and document retrieval.
  • Program, run, print, and deliver docket reports and ad hoc reports to attorneys, legal secretaries, and legal staff.
  • Monitor cases in state and federal courts, government, and administrative agencies, and communicate case status changes to responsible attorneys.
  • Verify docket database accuracy through spot checks and verification of docket entries from incoming mail.
  • Responsible for electronic filings in assigned courts, staying up-to-date on filing rules, procedures, and judge's individual practices.
  • Manage all case-specific information in responsible jurisdictions.
  • Act as liaison with court personnel, establishing and maintaining good working relations.
  • Respond to procedural inquiries and questions, including court research at the direction of attorneys, paralegals, and business services colleagues.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Minimum five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to respond to procedural inquiries and questions.
  • Proficient in searching and retrieving information from court-related databases and other online sources of case information.
  • Hands-on experience with rules-based calendaring software.
  • Highly familiar with litigation practice and able to quickly and accurately determine which filings and documents trigger future deadlines.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with federal, state, and local court systems, including electronic filing systems.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Manhattan and New York Civil Practice Law & Rules and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
