Des Moines, Iowa, United States Lutheran Services in Iowa Full time
Position Overview

Are you looking to make a meaningful impact in the lives of families in your community? Lutheran Services in Iowa is seeking dedicated part-time Respite Providers to deliver essential respite care services in the Des Moines area and its surroundings. The primary goal of respite care is to offer parents or primary caregivers a well-deserved break from the ongoing responsibilities of caring for individuals with disabilities.

If you possess strong communication skills, enjoy the flexibility of setting your own hours, and have a passion for helping others, this role may be a perfect fit for you. As a Respite Provider, you will offer relief to the parent or guardian of an individual with a disability, providing care for a few hours in the evening or potentially over an entire weekend. Your availability will align with the family's needs and your willingness to assist.

Key Responsibilities

This role involves delivering comprehensive care to children or adults with disabilities while their parent or guardian is away, ensuring a safe and nurturing home environment. Special consideration may be given to candidates who are specifically requested by clients or their families.

Respite Providers not directly requested will be paired with clients approved for services. These providers will conduct care in the client's residence, for a maximum of 16 hours per day.

Please note that this position does not guarantee set hours. There may be extended periods without work, with some providers working only a few hours one day and then having no assignments for weeks or months. All hours worked are based on family requests, with respite typically provided during afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess a high school diploma or GED. While experience with individuals with disabilities is preferred, it is not mandatory. Basic computer skills are beneficial.

Lutheran Services in Iowa is an equal opportunity employer. We honor diverse life experiences, cultures, and heritages, and strive to ensure that all voices are heard and valued. Learn more about our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
