Position Title: Vision Care Specialist

Location: Canton, NY

Reports To: Medical Director / Practice Manager

Compensation: $72.62 per hour

Work Schedule: 1-2 days per week, weekdays only, no evenings, weekends, or on-call. This position is classified as per diem and is not eligible for benefits.

Position Overview:

The Vision Care Specialist is responsible for conducting comprehensive eye examinations and performing a variety of diagnostic tests to assess visual acuity and identify ocular diseases and abnormalities. This role includes prescribing corrective lenses and other vision aids to enhance or preserve visual function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver primary vision care by examining patients' eyes and conducting tests to diagnose vision-related issues and eye diseases.
  • Evaluate patients' depth and color perception.
  • Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, and medications as necessary.
  • Provide pre- and postoperative care for patients undergoing ocular surgery.
  • Advocate for eye health through patient education and counseling.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records for each patient served.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a four-year program at an accredited optometry school.
  • Current and active professional license registration in New York State.
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues and patients.
  • Exhibit a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Preferred: One year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Physical capability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs, assist patients with and without support.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Regular exposure to clinical environments, including infectious diseases and other health-related hazards.
  • Competence in reading digital displays, recognizing colors, and operating necessary medical equipment.
  • Ability to use mechanical devices required by patients.
  • Willingness to wear necessary protective gear as required.

Salary: $72.62 per hour
