Position Title: Optometrist

Reports To: Medical Director / Practice Manager

Compensation: $72.62 per hour

Work Schedule: 1-2 days per week, weekdays only, no evenings, weekends, or on-call. This position is classified as per diem and is not eligible for benefits.

Position Overview:

The Optometrist is responsible for conducting comprehensive eye examinations and performing a variety of tests to assess visual acuity and identify potential eye diseases or abnormalities. This role involves prescribing corrective lenses and other vision aids to enhance or preserve vision.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver primary vision care by examining patients' eyes and conducting tests to diagnose vision issues and eye diseases.
  • Evaluate patients' depth and color perception.
  • Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, and necessary medications.
  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative care for patients undergoing eye surgery.
  • Promote eye health through patient education and counseling.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records for each patient.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • A completed 4-year degree from an accredited optometry school.
  • A current and active professional license registered in New York State.
  • The ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues and patients.
  • A high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Preferred experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • The physical capability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs, assist patients with mobility, and stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Familiarity with clinical environments, including exposure to infectious diseases and the ability to tolerate clinical odors.
  • Proficiency in reading digital outputs, recognizing colors, and operating essential medical equipment.
  • The ability to wear necessary personal protective equipment, including masks, gowns, gloves, and closed-toed shoes.
