Title: Educational Program Specialist, NYC

Reports to: Senior Program Director

Location: Hybrid - Remote and NYC Office

Status: Full Time, Exempt

Facing History & Ourselves is a global non-profit organization dedicated to empowering educators and students to confront prejudice and discrimination through the lessons of history. Our unique educational framework encourages learners to engage with critical questions surrounding identity, human behavior, and civic duty, linking historical events to the moral decisions they face today.

We are seeking a skilled educator to facilitate professional development for teachers across the United States, particularly in the New York City area. The Educational Program Specialist will:

  • Lead professional development sessions for educators and school leaders through both in-person and virtual workshops.
  • Engage with new educational institutions to promote the implementation of our programs, establishing partnerships that result in professional learning agreements.
  • Provide consultation on program execution across various contexts and regions.
  • Build and sustain relationships with educators and school administrators, ensuring effective communication and support.

The Educational Program Specialist will work collaboratively with the program team to design and deliver impactful learning opportunities in the New York region. This role may also involve traveling for program delivery in other areas as needed.

* This position requires occasional travel to schools and events in the New York region, with a primary focus on supporting educators virtually and in-person.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills.
  • A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in secondary education (grades 7-12); familiarity with Facing History content is a plus.
  • At least 3 years of experience in leading professional development or adult coaching within educational settings.
  • Experience and cultural competence in working with marginalized communities are highly valued.
  • Knowledge of social-emotional learning, school culture, and civic education.
  • Experience with culturally responsive teaching and equity initiatives is essential.
  • Familiarity with humanities content areas, particularly U.S. history or English Language Arts.
  • Proficient in designing and facilitating technology-enhanced professional learning experiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • A growth mindset and a desire to deepen knowledge in Facing History content areas.
  • Willingness to travel as required for school or district assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching about the Holocaust, the Civil Rights Movement, and racial history in America.
  • Willingness to learn database management and tracking systems for educator engagement.
  • Comfort with integrating digital media and social technologies to support a global network of educators.
