We are seeking a highly skilled Elevator Inspector to join our team at the City of New York. As an Elevator Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and lawful use of elevators and other related devices in our city.
Key Responsibilities- Perform technical inspections of elevators, escalators, and amusement rides to ensure compliance with the NYC Construction Code and other relevant laws and regulations.
- Respond to and investigate accidents, incidents, and complaints related to elevators and other related devices.
- Witness safety tests on high-speed elevators and perform spot-checks and audits on elevators and other related devices.
- Study drawings and plans to obtain details for inspections and make surveys of changes in occupancy where safety features are concerned.
- Issue violations, summonses, and stop work orders as necessary and verify licenses of onsite workers.
- Testify as needed in court and maintain records and make reports.
- Explain and enforce laws and rules related to the field and may assign, supervise, review, and evaluate the work of subordinates.
- Five years of full-time satisfactory experience in the actual assembly, installation, repair, or design of elevators, or as a maintenance elevator machinist with elevator manufacturers of recognized standing, or as a maintenance elevator mechanic working on various standard makes of elevators, or as an inspector of the construction, alteration, maintenance, or safety of elevators.
- Three years of experience as described above, and two years of formal training or education in an accredited college, technical school, or trade school in courses in or directly related to installation, repair, or design of elevators.
- Three years of experience as described above, and sixty (60) credits towards a degree in applied mechanics, mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, electrical engineering, or electrical engineering technology from an accredited college or university.
- Completion of an apprentice program, a minimum of three years in length, in the maintenance elevator mechanic trade or elevator inspection and one of the following: two years of experience as described above, or two years of education as described above, or sixty credits as described above.
- A license as a professional engineer or registered architect issued pursuant to the New York State Education Law.
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to the above.
Inspectors (Elevator) may be required to work shifts including nights, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Candidates must pass a drug screening in order to be appointed. At the time of appointment to this position, you must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. If you have moving violations, license suspension, or an accident record, you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
