GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Art Handling Specialist within the Rigging Department is tasked with the essential role of safely relocating artworks throughout the Museum, as well as managing the movement of furniture, equipment, and various materials. This position also includes the upkeep of tools and machinery designated for the shop.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Safeguarding and transporting artworks for the Museum
  • Managing the relocation of furniture and equipment
  • Executing the handling and movement of art, including both installations and de-installations in exhibition spaces and storage
  • Ensuring the maintenance of tools and equipment assigned to the shop
  • Packing and unpacking artworks with care
  • Assisting in evaluating the safety of artworks and taking appropriate actions or reporting issues to relevant personnel
  • Performing other related tasks as required
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • A minimum of two years of experience in art handling or related rigging work is essential
  • Proficiency in maintaining and operating equipment assigned to the shop
  • Understanding of rigging principles and the properties of materials used in art installations
  • Familiarity with various hand and power tools
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to effectively complete gallery installations and special exhibition projects
  • Capability to lift a minimum of 100 lbs.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
  • A high school diploma is required
COMPENSATION:
  • Hourly Pay Rate: $ /hour
  • The stated starting salary reflects the minimum and maximum hourly rate for this position, established in accordance with union agreements and economic negotiations. Salary rates may vary based on individual seniority and terms outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
