Position Objective

Clover Park Technical College (CPTC) is in search of a proficient and creative instructor dedicated to fostering a nurturing atmosphere for adult learners preparing for a career as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).

Teaching duties encompass hematology, immunology, phlebotomy, microbiology, urinalysis, blood banking, and chemistry in relation to sample processing for diagnostic purposes. The ideal candidate will engage collaboratively with fellow faculty in the School of Healthcare and perform functions pertinent to the outlined position. Additionally, the candidate will work alongside advising and other student services to optimally support student achievement. The successful applicant will also actively participate in our shared governance initiatives.

*The salary for this position is a per-credit rate. The current rate is $1000 per credit.
Essential Functions

Instructional Duties:
  • Deliver classroom and laboratory instruction using diverse teaching methodologies to equip students for careers in the healthcare sector.
  • Develop, implement, and adjust curriculum as necessary to achieve educational outcomes.
  • Maintain a professional and respectful classroom environment.
  • Utilize online learning management systems and integrate various modalities into curriculum design.
  • Ensure a safe learning environment through adherence to policies and ongoing evaluation of program equipment and laboratory settings.
  • Provide career guidance and assist with job placement.
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on student competencies aligned with industry standards.
  • Keep accurate and timely records of student progress and assessments.
  • Submit student grades promptly.
  • Coordinate educational and clinical training experiences.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Program and College Support:
  • Actively engage in college committees.
  • Participate in shared governance.
  • Promote the program and the college.
  • Conduct informational sessions about the program.
  • Attend significant college events as scheduled.
  • Comply with all college policies and procedures.

Program Effectiveness:
  • Oversee organization, instruction, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, curriculum development, and program growth.
  • Timely submission of grades, book orders, and necessary documentation.
  • Maintain productive relationships with the program's Advisory Committee.
  • Exercise sound judgment regarding instructional materials and equipment procurement.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with the potential to obtain a master's or doctoral degree within three years of hire.
  • Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology - Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist.
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Three years of teaching experience, with one year of bench work substitutable for each year of teaching experience.
  • Experience in educational methodologies and administration, along with knowledge of current accreditation and certification processes.
  • A minimum of thirty-six hours of continuing education within the last three years.
  • Ability to contribute to the college's commitment to diversity by fostering a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation.
