Position Objective

Clover Park Technical College (CPTC) is in search of a dedicated and innovative educator to foster a nurturing atmosphere for adult learners pursuing a career as a Medical Histology Technician (Ht/HTL). The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong commitment to engaging with a diverse student population. The successful applicant will actively work to close equity gaps and assist students in achieving success in their chosen career paths within an increasingly diverse workforce.

Qualified candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm for continuously updating the curriculum, researching, and integrating the latest technologies to optimally prepare students for the evolving careers that lie ahead. Teaching responsibilities encompass laboratory exercises in fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, lab mathematics, routine staining, professionalism, special staining, immunohistochemistry (IHC), tissue identification, microscopy, and laboratory inspections. The successful candidate will collaborate with fellow faculty members in the School of Healthcare and fulfill functions related to the position as outlined below.

The candidate will work in partnership with advising and other student services to best facilitate student success. Additionally, the successful candidate will actively engage in shared governance processes.

Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)

Duty: Provide classroom and lab instruction utilizing a variety of teaching techniques to prepare students for employment in the healthcare industry.
  • Create, implement, and modify curriculum as necessary to achieve learning outcomes.
  • Maintain and manage classroom environment, equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Foster an atmosphere of professionalism and mutual respect with students.
  • Utilize online learning management systems and incorporate diverse modalities into curriculum planning.
  • Ensure a safe environment through instruction, policy, and ongoing evaluation of program equipment and laboratory space.
  • Offer career guidance and job placement assistance.
  • Assess and provide feedback on student competencies as defined by industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student progress records and provide feedback on student learning.
  • Submit student grades promptly.
  • Coordinate teaching and clinical education.
  • Supervise applied laboratory learning experiences.
Duty: Program Support
  • Actively participate on the advisory board.
  • Promote the program and college.
  • Conduct program information sessions.
  • Adhere to all Clover Park Technical College employee policies and procedures.
Duty: Program Input
  • General program effectiveness: Responsible for organization, instruction, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Submit grades, book orders, and other necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Actively participate and maintain a productive and professional relationship with the program's Advisory Committee.
  • Exercise sound judgment regarding instructional materials and equipment usage.
  • Provide input for the program, schedules, and college publications.
  • Order laboratory supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree (HT) or Bachelor degree (HTL).
  • American Society of Clinical Pathology - Board of Certification ASCP HT or HTL.
  • 1 year of bench work or graduate of the program.
  • Minimum of thirty-six hours of continuing education in the past three years.
  • The ability to contribute to the college's commitment to diversity by fostering a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation.
